Oddschecker has revealed in its Cheltenham Festival Review 2024 that operator clickshare has become more evenly spread than in the last few years.
The FairPlay Sports Media brand’s data has confirmed that Bet365 is still the biggest in terms of operator clickshare with 19.4% but also continues on its falling trend from 2023’s 23.9% and 2022’s 35.6%.
William Hill has also seen a drop from 2023 as its 15.7% clickshare was registered as 12.5% at this year’s festival. Paddy Power also saw a decrease of 1% from its offerings in 2023 down to 9.5%.
A new entry into Cheltenham is BetMGM following its launch in the UK last August as the bookmaker took 8.4% of 2024’s clickshare, which seems to have been a key cause of decreasing market share across the board.
Other winners do however include Unibet who rose by 3.3% year-on-year, Coral who were up to 4% from 2.5% and 888, who achieved 3.9% from 2023’s 2.4%.
The 2024 Cheltenham festival also saw record-breaking low starting price (SP) winners, according to the affiliate. Each of the four days saw a reduced SP compared to the last five years' average.
In particular, according to Oddschecker, notably heavily-backed favourites including Gaelic Warrior (2/1), State Man (2/5), Lossiemouth (8/13), Ballyburn (1/2) and Fact to File (8/13) came out as wins.
The affiliate also confirms that bookmaker promotions, boosts and betting multis focussed on popular favourites compounded the hurt felt by bookmakers alongside fewer big outsider victories.
